“Are you tired of living your life based on fear? Are you ready to take a leap to make your dreams come true? Because I want to take that fear away.”
I declared to the world that I would give away my comic book store in a contest. Yes, you read that right. The inventory, fixtures, equipment, and six years of goodwill my brick-and-mortar business built up could all be yours for free, with just one essay. Just like a certain chocolate factory.
The story blew up – radio, television, newspapers, and websites around the world picked up the story. 9 out of 10 people told me it was inspiring; 1 out of 10 called me a con man. 10 out of 10 thought I had done something crazy.
And maybe I had. Because I believe the world needs more hope. I believe the world needs you. And I wanted to prove just how much I believe in you.
In the end, over 700 people answered my essay question: What Makes A Great Comic Book Store? This book contains the best essay responses to the contest, along with my commentary about how to shed the limits you’ve put on yourself to unlock your abilities and become the superhero you were always meant to be.
